Briefly About Termites

Cost of Termite Damage in the United States

Termites cause over $5 billion in damage each year. To put that number in perspective that is as much economic damage caused by tornados, huricanes, and windstorms, combined (Until some of our recent and possibly global-warming related calamedies). Partially due to their negative economic impact on society Termites are one of the most heavilly researched insect species on the planet.

Where and How do Termites Live – Termite Castes

Termites live in colonies that, at maturity, number from several hundred to several million individuals. They are a prime example of decentralised, self-organised systems using swarm intelligence and use this cooperation to exploit food sources and environments that could not be available to any single insect acting alone.

What does a termite look like?

Termites lives and die as a colony, the colony consists of several uniquely identifiable caste members. A typical colony contains nymphs (semi-mature young), workers, soldiers, and reproductive individuals of both genders, sometimes containing several egg-laying queens.
